Rudy Perez
Assistant Chief of Police, Golden Valley Police Department in Minnesota
In July 2022, Assistant Chief Rudy Perez took office as the new president of the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), a non-profit dedicated to enhancing school safety and protecting children by providing top-notch training to law enforcement officers.
Prior to his presidency, Assistant Chief Perez served as NASRO's Vice President and has been an unwavering advocate for school safety. He boasts a 23-year career at the Los Angeles School Police Department, where he rose to the position of Lieutenant and served as the Adjutant to the Chief of Police. His agency was responsible for protecting over 500,000 students, 40,000 employees, 1,500 locations, and 710 miles of jurisdiction. Recently in 2023, he also was appointed Assistant Chief of Police at the Golden Valley Police Department, a first ring city suburb department to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Demonstrating unwavering commitment to school safety, Assistant Chief Rudy Perez has served as Vice President for the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Association, an organization that represents thousands law enforcement associations across the state of California. He also co-founded Friends of Safe Schools USA, a non-profit dedicated to providing essential resources and education on child and school safety to schools, police departments, teachers, administrators, parents, communities, and students. Assistant Chief Rudy Perez also serves as a current Representative Member to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council.
Assistant Chief Rudy Perez is a recognized expert in school safety and leadership. Since 2011, he has periodically lectured on leadership at Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount School of Law. He has also been a national and international speaker on student, education, community, and constitutional-based safety. He earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy session 280.
Overall, Assistant Chief Rudy Perez is a highly qualified and dedicated leader in the field of school safety, and his presidency at NASRO signals a strong commitment to advancing its mission.
